Responsibilities
- Performs respiratory patient care including Aerosol Therapy, ABGs, ETTs, Bronchus, ECGs, CPT, Vent Care, CPAP/BIPAP therapy, and other Respiratory Care Procedures in accordance with all department safety, risk management, and procedural standards.
- Monitors patients for adverse reactions and takes corrective actions.
- Attends high-risk deliveries and C/sections to provide patient care within scope of practice.
- Under the direction of a Provider, performs activities related to ventilator/CPAP/Airway management, surfactant replacement, and other modalities of respiratory care within scope of practice.
- May be required to perform EEG studies.
- Evaluates and assesses the cardiopulmonary condition of patients using physical examination, respiratory monitoring, and diagnostic equipment.
- Determines the effectiveness of therapies and recommends changes; communicates assessments to nursing and other staff.
- Documents all work activities in applicable computer systems, including billing charges.
- Participates in transferring equipment and supplies, maintains and restocks supplies, and cleans and assembles equipment.
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience
- Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy and at least one year of recent clinical experience in Respiratory Care.
- Experience in the specialty area is preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of respiratory patient care practices, standards, techniques, and tools.
- Understanding of legal, regulatory, and safety standards applicable to respiratory therapy.
- Ability to perform respiratory therapies effectively and communicate clearly.
- Ability to inspect equipment, read measurements, and perform related tasks.
- Proficiency in English and basic office and automated systems.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Licensure/Certification
- License to practice as a respiratory care practitioner in Washington State.
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.
- Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
- ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications within specified timeframes.
- Additional certifications for Hyperbaric Medicine staff as required.
