General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. The ideal candidate will be a certified respiratory therapist committed to delivering exceptional patient care through strong knowledge in the field. Respiratory care is ordered by physicians according to established standards, practices, and protocols.
As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will possess working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to respiratory care. You should be familiar with the operation of respiratory care equipment and its application in a clinical setting. The role requires assessing hazardous conditions related to respiratory care and taking corrective actions. You must be able to work with patients of all ages (neonatal to geriatrics), remain calm under stress, and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.

Assess the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of patients, including educational needs, and document appropriately. Refer to competency validation documents as applicable.
Perform all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including application, operation, monitoring, and management of equipment such as oxygen, mixed gases, humidity, ventilators (invasive and non-invasive), bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry testing, EKG machines, and blood gas analysis.
Employ principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem solving, and crisis intervention during patient care.
Respond to emergencies, participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintain airway management, and provide oxygen and ventilation support using various devices.
Facilitate workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems, reviewing electronic medical records, and suggesting improvements.
Associate degree from an AMA-accredited program in respiratory care (AAS Degree or higher).
CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) - NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist or Pulmonary Function Technician from an accredited program.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications required within one year of hire.
Must be registry eligible; some acute experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in a related healthcare field.
RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
This position offers a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
