Job summary

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center in Columbia, MD is seeking a PRN Respiratory Care Practitioner to independently deliver evidence-based respiratory therapy to adults with cardiopulmonary conditions.

You will assess, treat and monitor patients, perform arterial blood gas analysis, and provide emergency respiratory interventions. You will also support staff education and orient new team members in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
• Graduate of a CoARC-accredited program.
• Minimum of two years clinical respiratory care experience in adult critical care.
• RRT credential from NBRC and Maryland license.
• BLS certification; ACLS as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized respiratory care to adult patients.
• Assess, treat and manage respiratory disorders with advanced therapies.
• Draw and interpret blood gases; monitor responses to treatment.
• Provide emergency respiratory interventions when needed.

General Summary

Join our team as a PRN Respiratory Care Practitioner, where you will independently provide specialized, evidence-based respiratory care to adult patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. You will assess, treat and manage respiratory disorders using advanced therapies, including medical gas administration, aerosol treatments, bronchial hygiene techniques, airway management and invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Working alongside physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will develop individualized care plans, draw and interpret blood gases, monitor patients’ responses to treatment and provide emergency respiratory interventions when needed. You will also serve as a clinical resource and support staff orientation, training and the education of respiratory therapy students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy, Respiratory Care or a related field.
• Graduate of a Registered Respiratory Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
• Minimum of two years of relevant clinical respiratory care experience in adult critical care.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Current Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, when applicable.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and respond effectively during emergencies and rapidly changing clinical situations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience providing respiratory care in an intensive care unit or emergency department.
• Experience with invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, airway management, arterial blood gases and emergency response.
• Experience serving as a clinical resource or supporting staff and student education.
• Experience caring for high-acuity patients in rapidly changing clinical situations.

Salary Range: Minimum $48.00/hour - Maximum $48.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
