Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a paid internship with the NSP Resource Planning team in the Integrated System Planning group in Minneapolis, MN. The program is designed to develop analytical skills, present to leadership, and collaborate with internal stakeholders while applying classroom knowledge to real-world resource planning workstreams.

Starting May 24, 2027, interns gain hands-on training, networking opportunities with other interns, and a structured path to learning about generation mix, RFPs,

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in accredited college/university.
• Pursuing a degree in finance, economics, OR, math, business, data analytics or engineering.
• Able to work full-time in summer (up to 40 hrs/week) or part-time during school year (up to 20 hrs/week).

Responsibilities

• Attend weekly meetings to track resource planning workstreams.
• Assist in developing NSP resource expansion plans with input from stakeholders.
• Gather input assumptions for modeling and create presentation materials.
• Research MISO workshops on resource accreditation and planning margins.
• Research cost assumptions for generation types and technologies.
• Support data analysis for decisions on retirement, extension and expansion.
• Assist with RFP processes for long-term capacity and energy resources.
• Coordinate with SMEs to evaluate bids against set criteria.
