Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geologist for a major mining operation near Upington, Northern Cape, South Africa. The role centers on resource definition and evaluation, building geological models, and providing data-driven input to mine planning and investment decisions.

You will perform geological mapping, log drill core, manage geochemical and structural data, and develop models using Leapfrog, Micromine, or Vulcan.

Qualifications

• BSc/BSc (Hons) in Geology or related Earth Science.
• Minimum 4 years in exploration or mine geology, focusing on resource definition.
• Proficiency with geological modelling software (Leapfrog, Micromine, Vulcan).
• Strong data management, QA/QC, and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geological mapping and surface sampling.
• Log diamond and RC drill core and cuttings.
• Collect and manage geological, geochemical, and structural data.
• Develop and update geological models using specialized software.
• Perform resource estimation using geostatistical methods.
• Contribute to SAMREC-compliant resource and reserve reports.
• Collaborate with mine engineers on mine planning and reconciliation.
• Ensure QA/QC protocols are followed.
• Assist in planning and supervision of exploration and in-fill drilling.
• Stay informed about industry best practices in geology and resource estimation.
