Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Geologist to join a premier mining and resource exploration company in Welkom, Free State. The role combines field-based mapping and office-based data analysis to support exploration strategy and resource modeling.

You will conduct mapping, sampling, and core logging; build geological models; collaborate with geophysicists and engineers; and ensure safety while advancing mineral discoveries in remote locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences (Honours or Master's preferred).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mineral exploration or mining geology.
• Proven experience in geological mapping, sampling, and core logging.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Micromine).
• Strong understanding of structural geology, mineralogy, and ore deposit types.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to undertake fieldwork in remote locations as required in Welkom, Free State.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and core logging for exploration projects.
• Analyze geological data, including assay results, geophysical surveys, and drilling logs.
• Develop and manage geological models and resource estimations using specialized software.
• Identify and evaluate potential mineral targets based on geological criteria and exploration models.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing geological findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, geochemists, and mining engineers to integrate data.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols during fieldwork.
• Assist in the planning and supervision of drilling programs.
• Maintain accurate geological databases and records.
• Stay updated on the latest exploration techniques and geological technologies.
