Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Geologist for a gold exploration team in Welkom, Free State. You will conduct geological mapping, core logging, sampling, and contribute to resource modeling while coordinating with the exploration group to target drill sites.

The position requires a geology degree and 1–3 years in mineral exploration, with familiarity in Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS. You will work at remote or mine sites on-site, travel as needed, and participate in safe, compliant field operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or related Earth Science.
• 1–3 years of mineral exploration or mine geology experience (gold).
• Experience with drill core logging and geological mapping.
• Familiarity with Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS for data management/interpretation.
• Strong field-based geological skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel and work at mine sites around Welkom.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed geological mapping and structural analysis.
• Log drill core and record lithology, alteration, mineralization, structural data.
• Collect and assay rock chips and channel samples per protocols.
• Assist in geological modeling and interpretation using software.
• Help define drill targets and plan drill programs with the team.
• Maintain geological databases and ensure data quality.
• Collaborate to integrate surface and underground geological data.
• Ensure fieldwork safety and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare geological reports and presentations.
