Job summary

Institute for Community Living in Brooklyn, NY, is seeking an entry-level direct care worker for community residences to provide 24/7 coverage and support adults with mental illness and substance use disorders.

You will perform safety checks, assist with daily living activities, monitor behavior, accompany residents to appointments, and coordinate with clinical staff to maintain a safe, clean, healing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus one year of related human services experience.
• NY driver's license may be required for some assignments.
• Ability to read and write at least at the secondary school level.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, consumers/residents, families.
• Ability to secure and maintain certification for Standard First Aid and CPR.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular safety inspections and ensure cleanliness and secure access.
• Report incidents to supervisors and complete incident reports.
• Instruct residents in daily living skills, socialization, and conflict resolution.
• Assist with personal hygiene, grooming, and meal planning.
• Lead or participate in activities and supervise groups.
• Monitor medications per protocol and assist with administration.
• Attend staff meetings and comply with training.
