Job summary

The Salvation Army Palmer Correctional Facility is seeking a Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Service Counselor to manage a caseload, conduct SBIRT and ASAM assessments, and facilitate groups within the SATS program. This is a full-time, hourly position offering a contract through 6/30/2027 with potential renewal.

Ideal candidates hold Alaska State Counselor Technician Certification or equivalent, with knowledge of addictions, SBIRT/ASAM, and the ability to obtain CDCI within one year.

Qualifications

• Alaska State Counselor Technician Certification required.
• Knowledgeable of Substance Related and Addictive Disorders and treatment.
• Experience consistent with Alaska CDCI requirements; CDCII preferred.
• Able to obtain Alaska State CDCI Certification within one year from hire.
• Must pass ADOC background check and PREA screening.

Responsibilities

• Conduct SBIRT and ASAM assessments and orientation for new clients.
• Facilitate groups addressing chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders, and related issues.
• Monitor client progress toward treatment goals and attend to curriculum assignments.
• Complete all documentation in a timely manner per contract requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
