Job summary

Thurston County Public Works is seeking a Residential Stormwater Inspector to independently manage the Residential Stormwater Inspection Program in Thurston County. You will inspect private facilities, contact owners annually, and maintain asset records while coordinating with property managers, HOAs, departments, and the public.

The role requires field inspections, strong communication, and ability to respond to spills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental sciences, engineering, planning, or related field.
Four years’ experience in water resources, environmental issues, or related field; budget/grant experience preferred.
Ability to use a PC and related software to perform essential functions.
Current Washington State Driver’s License or approved accommodation.
Within first year: PACP/MACP, CESCL, Traffic Control/Flagging, Confined Space certifications; all must be maintained.

Responsibilities

Identify and inspect private stormwater facilities and sites subject to NPDES and BMPs.
Contact facility owners annually to apprise maintenance/reporting responsibilities and resources.
Conduct annual inspections, assess conditions, and maintain records in asset management databases.
Perform IDDE inspections and respond to spills; may require after-hours pager rotation.
Collaborate with property owners, HOA, agencies, and the public to enforce regulations.
