Job description

As a Stormwater Compliance Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of our projects by overseeing contractor implementation of stormwater pollution prevention and erosion control measures. You will conduct daily field inspections, initiate corrective actions when necessary, and verify compliance with NPDES/MS4 permit requirements, SWPPP provisions, and contract-specific stormwater management requirements. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented field professional who thrives working independently, demonstrates strong integrity, and communicates effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate compliance with NPDES permits, MS4 requirements, SWPPP provisions, erosion and sediment control measures, and related stormwater management regulations through routine inspections of construction and industrial sites.
  • Prepare clear, detailed stormwater inspection reports documenting BMP installation and maintenance, adherence to approved SWPPP plans, materials, and specifications.
  • Oversee all aspects of stormwater inspection activities, ensuring alignment with quality control standards, pollution prevention measures, and safety protocols.
  • Investigate stormwater-related concerns and complaints, conduct follow-up inspections, and document corrective actions for BMP deficiencies.
  • Maintain regular communication with contractors, engineers, field personnel, and State and Federal agencies (e.g., EPA and state environmental agencies) regarding stormwater compliance.
  • Work primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions; may occasionally work in elevated or confined areas and be exposed to humidity, fumes, airborne particles, electrical hazards, vibration, asphalt, concrete, and dust.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Ecology, Biology, Geology, or a related field is a plus
  • One to three years of experience in stormwater or environmental compliance inspections preferred.
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and project management software; ability to learn new reporting tools as needed.
  • Knowledge of NPDES/MS4 permit requirements, State and local erosion and sediment control ordinances, and related stormwater management codes.
  • Understanding of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs), construction practices, materials, equipment, and project phases preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to staff, clients, and contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret SWPPP plans, reports, blueprints, inspection records, diagrams, specifications, codes, and architectural drawings.
  • Certification such as CPESC, CESSWI, or QSP/QSD is a plus.
