Job summary

The Thurston County Public Works Department is hiring a Residential Stormwater Inspector to manage the Residential Stormwater Inspection Program. The role involves field inspections of private stormwater facilities, data management, and collaboration with property owners and agencies to ensure compliance with regulations.

Essential duties include annual owner outreach, routine inspections, and maintaining asset databases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental sciences, engineering, planning, or closely related field.
• Four years of experience in water resources, environmental issues, or related field; preferred grant writing/administration experience.
• Must be able to obtain required certifications within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Identify and inspect private stormwater facilities and sites subject to NPDES regulations and BMPs.
• Contact facility owners annually to communicate maintenance and reporting responsibilities.
• Conduct annual inspections and condition assessments of residential stormwater facilities.
• Maintain databases and asset management software for inspections and attendees.
• Perform IDDE inspections and respond to spills.
• May be required to respond to emergencies and work after hours on a pager rotation.
