Job summary

Sunrise Community in Connecticut seeks a Direct Support professional to provide supervision and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, enabling them to live valued lives in the community.

You will supervise staff, document care, and ensure safety, health, and rights compliance, including reporting abuse when observed; a valid driver’s license and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and a minimum of 3 years driving experience.
• Proficiency in English (written and verbal) is required.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in the human service field preferred; supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identifies and reports any suspected abuse or violations of an individual’s rights.
• Ensures health, safety and well-being of individuals at all times.
• Supervises and mentors staff providing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Provides training and constructive feedback to employees through positive interactions and role modeling.
• Ensures implementation of therapy, training and data collection required by individual plans and regulatory agencies.
• Maintains a positive, innovative person-directed home environment.
• Ensures compliance with agency directives, licensing standards and policies.
