Job summary

The Village School in Houston is seeking a Residential Assistant to manage daily student life in the Residential Program. You will provide structure, guidance, discipline and understanding to ensure a safe, supportive living environment.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree (or progress toward one), experience with youth in educational or dorm settings, and strong communication and organizational skills. Some overnight shifts and weekend work are required.

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth in educational or residential settings.
• Strong communication with students, staff and families.
• Excellent organization and time management.
• Willingness to work some overnight shifts and alternate weekends.
• Willingness to accompany students on trips during breaks.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate shift handoffs with the Shift Supervisor and complete required reports.
• Supervise students’ daily routines: wake-up, meals, study, activities, curfew.
• Maintain accurate student accountability and attendance records.
• Conduct patrols of residence halls to ensure safety and order.
• Address behavioral concerns and document incidents per procedures.
• Escalate concerns to Residential Life leadership when needed.
• Support study sessions and academic progress with faculty.
• Administer medications as directed by the school nurse.
• Communicate with students, staff and leadership about well-being and updates.
• Oversee meals and maintain clean, orderly common areas.
• Conduct room checks and ensure a safe living environment.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and Residential Life programming.
• Support activities, events and trips, including evenings and weekends.
• Transport students as needed per policy.
