Job summary

BHcare is seeking a Residential Counselor for Harbor House Residential Program in Connecticut. This per diem role supports residents on their recovery journey, helping them build skills for independent living in a structured 8-bed adult psychiatric residence.

Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, coordinating services, documenting progress, and providing emotional support. Requires a high school diploma (or 2 years college) and CPR/First Aid; CT driver's license

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least two years of direct care experience, or two years of college education.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, behavioral health challenges, or co-occurring disorders preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, rehabilitation services, and skill-building opportunities to empower residents to recover and gain independence.
  • Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal care, meals, housekeeping, budgeting, and community integration.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor personalized recovery plans reflecting residents' goals, strengths, and preferences.
  • Coordinate services with clinical, educational, vocational, medical, and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and health records; report progress and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams, families, and natural supports to achieve meaningful recovery.

Harbor House is an 8-bed, continually staffed adult psychiatric community residence that provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment where residents living with serious and persistent mental illness are assisted in achieving their highest level of independence and recovery. The program offers structured activities designed to help individuals build skills, reach their goals, and maximize their potential.These are Per Diem positions and various shifts are available as this is a 24/7 program.This position is designated as Onsite Essential Staff and is required to report to work during inclement weather and other emergency situations.Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position.What You Will Do:In this role, you will provide support, rehabilitation services, and skill-building opportunities that empower residents to achieve their recovery goals and increase their independence.• Support residents with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, budgeting, and community integration.• Assist individuals in developing, implementing, and achieving personalized recovery plans that reflect their goals, strengths, and preferences.• Facilitate recovery-focused and rehabilitation-based activities and groups that promote independent living skills.• Coordinate services and connect residents with clinical, educational, vocational, medical, and community resources.• Provide emotional support, crisis intervention, advocacy, and problem-solving assistance as needed.• Assist with medication monitoring, appointment scheduling, transportation, and health and safety needs.• Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, service records, and electronic health record data.• Work collaboratively with treatment teams, family members, and natural supports to help residents achieve meaningful recovery outcomes.What You Will Bring:• High School Diploma or equivalent with at least two years of direct care experience, or two years of college education.• Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, behavioral health challenges, or co-occurring disorders preferred.• Ability to build positive, respectful relationships while supporting individuals toward greater independence.• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification• Valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to transport clients as needed.What We OfferPay rate is $20.00 per hour.
