Job summary

BHcare is seeking a compassionate Residential Counselor for its Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program in Connecticut. The per diem role supports residents daily, helping them develop independent living skills and recovery goals in a community-based setting.

You will coordinate care across medical, behavioral health, vocational, and social resources, supervise self-medication, and respond to crises. A strong interpersonal skill set and CT residency are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Two years of college education in Human Services, Behavioral Science, or a related field preferred; OR High School Diploma/GED with 2-4 years of direct care experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with behavioral health, cognitive, neurological, or co-occurring challenges preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to transport clients as needed
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operation of the residential program.
  • Support residents in developing and achieving individualized recovery goals and plans.
  • Teach and reinforce independent living skills including personal hygiene, cooking, meal planning, cleaning, budgeting, and community integration.
  • Provide rehabilitation services and facilitate skill-building and recovery-focused groups.
  • Coordinate care and connect residents with medical, behavioral health, vocational, educational, and community resources.
  • Advocate for residents and help them establish meaningful community supports and relationships.
  • Supervise self-medication protocols and support health and safety needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and coordinate with emergency services when needed.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Counselor to join our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program. The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program provides a community-based residential setting for individuals living with acquired or traumatic brain injuries.
