Job summary

BHcare is seeking a compassionate Residential Counselor for our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program in Connecticut. The role supports residents in daily living, coordination of care, and community integration.

The position is part-time (24 hours/week) with Saturday and overnight shifts; CPR/First Aid certification is desirable. Candidates must reside in CT and be prepared to report during emergencies. Salary ranges from $20 to $22 per hour depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Two years of college education in Human Services, Behavioral Science, or a related field preferred; OR High School Diploma/GED with 2-4 years of direct care experience.
  • Experience with behavioral health, cognitive, neurological, or co-occurring challenges preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and reinforce independent living skills such as hygiene, cooking, budgeting, and community integration.
  • Provide rehabilitation services and facilitate recovery-focused groups.
  • Coordinate care and connect residents with medical, behavioral health, vocational, and educational resources.
  • Advocate for residents and help build meaningful community supports and relationships.
  • Supervise self-medication protocols and support health and safety needs; provide crisis intervention as needed.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Counselor to join our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program.The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program provides a community-based residential setting for individuals living with acquired or traumatic brain injuries. The program delivers coordinated physical, psychological, medical, vocational, and social services while helping residents develop independent living skills, strengthen natural supports, and achieve meaningful recovery outcomes. supporting individuals as they build skills, strengthen community connections, and achieve their recovery goals.This is a part-time, 24 hours per week position.Schedule: Saturday 3pm-11pm and 11pm-7am and Monday 11pm-7amThis position is designated as Onsite Essential Staff and is required to report to work during inclement weather and other emergency situations.Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position.What You'll Do:As a Residential Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting residents' day-to-day success and overall well-being by:Teaching and reinforcing independent living skills, including personal hygiene, cooking, meal planning, cleaning, budgeting, and community integration.Providing rehabilitation services and facilitating skill-building and recovery-focused groups.Coordinating care and connecting residents with medical, behavioral health, vocational, educational, and community resources.Advocating for residents and helping them establish meaningful community supports and relationships.Supervising self-medication protocols and supporting health and safety needs.Providing crisis intervention and coordinating with emergency services when needed.QualificationsTwo years of college education in Human Services, Behavioral Science, or a related field preferred; OR High School Diploma/GED with 2-4 years of direct care experience.Experience working with individuals with behavioral health, cognitive, neurological, or co-occurring challenges preferred.Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to transport clients as neededAbility to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.What We OfferThe anticipated salary range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00 per hour.
