Job summary

Alternative Services – Connecticut, Inc. seeks a Residential Instructor to supervise consumers daily and ensure safety and welfare in the home.

You will implement agency policies, maintain accurate records, and provide activities and counseling as part of a supportive, respectful team environment. This role requires at least a high school diploma or GED, relevant DD experience, valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (or relevant education alternative).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured; agency vehicle or own vehicle may be used.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a team.

Responsibilities

• Monitor consumer behavior and implement behavior management programs; document activities.
• Document shift activities and incidents in logs and Therap.
• Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
• Maintain safety, appearance and cleanliness of home; conduct sanitation and safety inspections and alert supervisor to major problems.
• Act as advocate and role model; treat individuals with respect and dignity.
• Assist with hygiene and routine activities for consumers.
• Distribute medications according to schedules and policy guidelines.
• Provide activities and supervise interactions with consumers.
• Report violations of individuals' rights and participate in investigations as directed.
• Attend training and share knowledge with staff; participate in meetings.
