Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is hiring a Residential Aide for a Jamaica, Queens location. The role supports shelter operations, assists with intake, safety monitoring, and policy enforcement, while maintaining a respectful living environment.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of relevant experience, basic computer literacy, and the ability to work in a diverse community. CPR and Food Protection certification may be obtained after employment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year experience with homelessness or related challenges.
• Familiarity with shelter operations preferred.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to learn DHS CARES.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to remain calm in high-pressure or crisis situations.
• Commitment to trauma-informed care, confidentiality, and ethics.
• Willingness to obtain CPR certification and Food Protection Certificate during employment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome residents and orient to shelter policies and routines.
• Assist with client check-ins, discharges, and DHS CARES documentation.
• Monitor safety and behavior through rounds and engagement.
• Enforce rules while maintaining a respectful environment.
• Respond to incidents and file timely reports.
• Refer residents to services and coordinate with case managers.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of resident rooms.
• Report maintenance needs to supervisors.
• Build rapport and provide guidance during interactions.
• Uphold confidentiality and follow DHS protocols.
