Job summary

Institute for Community Living (ICL) in Brooklyn, NY, seeks an Apartment Counselor to support adults with mental illness and substance use disorders in community living environments. You will help residents build daily living skills, ensure safety, and assist with accessing services, housing, and healthcare.

You will follow supervision, document incidents, and participate in team meetings, while providing compassionate, individualized guidance to residents within a structured program.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of mental illness and substance use disorders.
• Experience supporting adults in community living settings.
• Ability to follow policies, complete reports, and document incidents accurately.
• Willingness to participate in training and supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on support to residents in daily living and community integration.
• Report serious incidents and complete incident reports per policy.
• Instruct residents in hygiene, nutrition, attire, and daily living activities.
• Inspect apartment safety, cleanliness, and property accountability during shifts.
• Log communications with supervisors and document security and crisis information.
• Assist with maintaining a safe and healing environment and follow emergency plans.
