Job summary

Downstreet Housing & Community Development in Barre, Vermont is seeking a full-time, customer‑service oriented individual to support resident success across multiple affordable housing buildings. You will help lease housing to low- and middle-income renters and assist residents in maintaining stable housing by ensuring lease compliance.

Key duties include building professional relationships, responding to concerns and work orders, mediating conflicts, performing move‑in/out inspections, visiting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or two years college plus two years customer service or social service experience.
• Competent in Microsoft Office and able to learn property management software.
• Ability to manage priorities and deadlines with confidential information.
• Strong written and verbal communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice.
• Valid Vermont driver’s license, personal vehicle, and ability to travel between housing sites.

Responsibilities

• Develop professional relationships and maintain regular communication with residents, colleagues, and partners.
• Respond promptly to resident concerns, complaints, work orders, and tracking for timely responses.
• Support resident success by enforcing lease terms and intervening when violations occur.
• Mediate resident conflicts.
• Conduct move-in, move-out and periodic inspections of all units.
• Regularly visit sites to ensure proper maintenance and curb appeal.
• Complete lease violation notices, work orders and maintain organized resident files.
• Participate in team meetings and Downstreet events.
• Oversee rent collections and subsidy payments for accurate financial ledgers.
