At Mt. Baker Housing (“MBH”), our mission is to improve lives and strengthen communities in southeast Seattle by creating quality, affordable housing, and supporting our residents. Our work towards fulfilling our mission is guided by our core values of Inclusivity, Curiosity, Empathy, Courage, Creativity, and Vitality.

Founded in 1988, Mt. Baker Housing was established to preserve the Mt. Baker Village Apartments, a nine-building apartment complex housing primarily Khmer refugees and Khmer American residents. MBH now owns and operates a portfolio of affordable housing properties in South Seattle, with a pipeline of three transit-oriented new construction projects in design and development. By furthering our vision that all people, regardless of income, deserve secure, high quality, affordable places to live, we strive to improve residents’ lives by providing vibrant communities that residents are happy to call home.

Position Overview

The Resident Services Coordinator is an integral and collaborative member of the Mt. Baker Housing team, actively supporting residents to live stably in their housing, and to thrive in the community. The Resident Services Coordinator is responsible for assessing resident needs, developing and/or identifying programming to meet those needs, making resource information available to residents, and providing referrals to needed services for residents living in our communities.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a presence and develop relationships with residents at all assigned properties.
  • Be an active member of the site team, working collaboratively with the property manager and other site staff to meet property and resident needs.
  • Survey the resident population to identify priority of needs and solicit resident input on service preferences.
  • Develop strategies to link residents with needed services, including providing assistance in overcoming various barriers that might impede access to services.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant organizations and individuals.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of available community resources (employment, education, social service agencies, etc.) for residents.
  • Implement on site programs and activities through partnerships with other community based service providers/organizations.
  • Develop parameters for the resident service program, specific action items, and measurable goals that will be communicated to the community as part of further fundraising efforts.
  • Engage in community activities that promote the mission of Mt Baker Housing for the benefit of its residents, its partners, and the communities in which we serve.
  • Work with residents, property staff, and community agencies to identify and address resident problems before they escalate.
  • Plan and coordinate cultural and social activities in coordination with property operations staff and residents.
  • Produce flyers, newsletters, and other methods of communication to keep residents informed of service availability and connected to their community.
  • Collect required data for all programming offered, record data in the database, and submit reports to funders and other partners in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain all reporting requirements set by funding and/or governmental agencies.
  • Evaluate outcomes of regularly scheduled on-site programs and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission of Mt. Baker Housing.
  • Ability to work as a key member of a small and collaborative team.
  • Knowledge of services available in Seattle.
  • Ability to develop effective working partnerships with various types of community groups and organizations.
  • Commitment to recognizing residents’ knowledge and experience as a valuable resource.
  • Ability to motivate individuals to actively participate in services.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and community gatherings.
  • Proficient with MS Office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to establish trusting, confidential relationships.
  • An ability to effectively communicate in multiple languages, either fluently, or with the use of language translation tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience and/or training in community development, social services, or related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position will be considered.

Working Conditions

The Resident Services Coordinator will primarily work in an office setting, with regular travel to our properties and community meetings within the Rainier Valley of Seattle.
