This position reports to

Field Service Manager

Your role and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Drives Service Manager, the Resident Field Engineering Specialist provides technical onsite and offsite support for ABB MV Drives and Motors. Responsibilities include installation, commissioning, maintenance, and support at a customer site in southern Texas, USA. The role involves assessing system health, advising on maintenance, and spare parts management. The work model is remote, with the employee reporting daily to the site and providing after-hours support as needed.

1. Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair of ABB Medium Voltage (MV) Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).
2. Support maintenance planning, outage, and post-outage activities with the customer.
3. Coordinate with related groups to achieve objectives, ensure customer satisfaction, and communicate effectively with management, customers, vendors, and colleagues.
4. Assess parts storage needs, recommend improvements, and prepare detailed service reports timely.

Qualifications for the role

• Associate degree with 7 years relevant experience, or high school diploma with 9 years relevant experience, or military education/experience. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field with 5 years relevant experience is highly preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 80% and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to provide technical support during evenings and weekends on a rotating basis.
• Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and specifications.
• Work environment involves exposure to mechanical parts, heights, outdoor conditions, electrical hazards, and noise; physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, and manual manipulation.
• Must have work authorization to work in the United States.
