This position reports to

Field Service Manager

Your role and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Drives Service Manager, the Resident Field Engineering Specialist provides technical onsite and offsite support and expertise in response to site work requests relating to installation, commissioning, maintenance, and support for ABB MV Drives and Motors. As a resident, you would be assigned to a single customer site in southern Texas, USA, reporting daily on-site and providing after-hours phone support as needed. Responsibilities include assessing system health, advising on maintenance, system improvements, and spare parts management.

The work model for this role is: remote.

This role contributes to the Motion division in the US.

Main responsibilities include:

  1. Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of ABB Medium Voltage (MV) Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) at customer sites, investigating problems, and implementing solutions.
  2. Support maintenance planning, pre-outage, outage, and post-outage activities with the customer.
  3. Coordinate with related groups to achieve objectives, ensure customer satisfaction, and communicate effectively with management, customers, vendors, and colleagues.
  4. Assess parts storage and maintenance needs, recommend storage solutions, and advise customers on parts requirements, including identifying missing spare parts. Prepare and follow up on detailed service reports promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or High school diploma/GED with 9 years of relevant experience, or military education/experience. A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field with 5 years of relevant experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 80% and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to provide technical support during evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule.
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
  • Work environment involves exposure to mechanical parts, high places, outdoor weather conditions, and electrical hazards. Physical activities include talking, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, manipulating tools, reaching, climbing, and crouching.
  • Must have valid work authorization for the US.
