Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas in Maryland is seeking a Security Specialist responsible for monitoring residents, ensuring compliance with FBOP rules, and maintaining safety and order within the facility. The role includes counts, logs, cleanliness, incident reporting, and staff coordination.

The full-time position may require overtime during shortages or emergencies and offers comprehensive benefits along with professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with 2–5 years in human services/security/corrections or military experience.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships and work independently with limited supervision.
• Strong organization, problem solving, judgment and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor facility activities and supervise residents, identify unauthorized locations and coordinate corrective actions.
• Conduct regular counts, rounds, and inspections of rooms, offices, and service areas.
• Maintain sign-in/out logs and enter departures in the electronic case management system.
• Ensure cleanliness and supervise resident cleaning activities; maintain safety and order 24/7.
• Report disciplinary issues and document incidents in required logs and program records.
• Maintain communications with staff and residents per policy; provide support as needed.
• Handle meals, medication dispensing, urine specimens, and breathalyzer procedures per procedures.
• Assist with emergencies and life-safety drills; attend meetings and trainings.
