Job Description

This is semi-skilled grounds maintenance work at the full performance level. The role involves performing a variety of light and heavy manual tasks in the care and maintenance of lawns, parks, and grounds, including landscaping around facilities. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining light power equipment, and repairing recreational and related facilities and equipment. The position requires independent task performance, with some work structured for crews, and includes providing routine liaison with park visitors and neighbors, acting as a County representative. Supervision may come from a work leader, but the role reports directly to a supervisor.

Typical Examples of Work

• Establishing and maintaining a routine work schedule for assigned parks, ensuring facilities and vegetation are well-maintained.
• Coordinating materials, supplies, and assistance with the Parks Bureau Manager.
• Operating mowers and trimming grass around structures; maintaining tools and equipment.
• Applying chemicals, fertilizers, and solutions to plants; watering, fertilizing, and cultivating plantings.
• Cleaning grounds, raking leaves, picking up litter, and maintaining tidy areas.
• Maintaining sprinkling systems and performing minor repairs on structures and equipment.
• Performing snow and ice removal, excavating, and preparing spaces for burial as needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance methods, materials, and equipment.
• Knowledge of power lawn equipment operation and maintenance.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to learn minor repair tasks.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
