Job summary

Maplewood Manor in Minnesota is seeking a part-time cook to plan, prepare, cook and serve meals ensuring residents' nutritional needs are met. You will follow recipes and dietary guidelines, supervise fellow staff when needed, and participate in menu planning with residents and families.

Qualifications

• Read and follow recipes, labels and policies and procedures.
• Ability to write.
• Ability to perform simple calculations and follow oral and written directions.
• Serve Safe certification or willingness to attend training at the soonest available time.
• Ability to lead and cooperate with management, staff and residents/families.
• Ability to direct or supervise fellow employees.
• Prior commercial cooking experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure nutritionally appropriate meals and menus are followed for residents.
• Involve residents/families in menu planning when possible.
• Participate in Resident Council meetings as warranted.
• Visit the dining room during meals to monitor service.
• Involve residents/families when creating menus and special meals.
• Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating culinary service programs.
• Assist in administering department policies and directing staff to follow policies.
• Monitor food temperature during cooking and in the steam table; ensure leftovers are cooled properly.
• Interview residents/families in private settings as needed.
• Complete forms and reports for the Dietary Manager (audits, temps, groceries).
• Attend/participate in committees and implement changes recommended by the QA committee.
• Create a warm, welcoming atmosphere and maintain a calm environment throughout the facility.
• Prepare, cook, bake and serve food following guidelines and recipes.
• Observe meals and solicit resident feedback on meal quality and dining setting.
• Monitor sanitation and inventory incoming food supplies.
