Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of construction management and inspection experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Experience as a Resident Engineer on NJDOT projects and knowledge of NJDOT procedures and standards.
  • Experience with ITS construction, integration, testing, and commissioning.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Resident Engineer with a strong background in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), transportation construction management, and inspection services. The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing NJDOT projects and overseeing the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of ITS infrastructure. The Resident Engineer will be responsible for project administration, field oversight, contractor coordination, quality assurance, and ensuring compliance with NJDOT standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary on-site representative for construction management and inspection activities on transportation and ITS projects.
  • Oversee the installation, integration, and testing of ITS components, including:
  • Traffic Signal Systems
  • Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
  • Fiber Optic Networks
  • Traffic Monitoring Systems
  • Communication Infrastructure
  • Ensure contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, schedules, and NJDOT requirements.
  • Review shop drawings, material submissions, RFIs, change orders, and contractor payment applications.
  • Coordinate with NJDOT representatives, utility companies, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and construction progress.
  • Prepare daily reports, field documentation, meeting minutes, and project status reports.
  • Conduct inspections and verify quality control and quality assurance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and construction best practices.
  • Manage project closeout activities, punch lists, and final acceptance documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of construction management and inspection experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a Resident Engineer on NJDOT projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NJDOT construction procedures, specifications, and standards.
  • Experience with ITS construction, integration, testing, and commissioning.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management documentation tools.
Required Certification
  • Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC) Certification
  • ACI (American Concrete Institute) Certification
Preferred Qualification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (New Jersey preferred)
  • NICET Certification (Transportation, Highway Construction, or related discipline)
  • Additional NJDOT construction inspection certifications are highly desirable
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent transportation projects.
