Job summary

Young Adult Institute, Inc. (YAI) is hiring Direct Support Professionals for our Cypress Hills (Brooklyn) and Ozone Park/Howard Beach (Queens) locations.

DSPs provide direct care, assist with daily living tasks, and support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in homes, day programs, and community settings. You will participate in treatment planning, documentation for compliance, and ongoing trainings to meet OPWDD competencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License required for most positions.
• Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus.
• For DSP 2 positions, at least 2 years’ work experience in the I/DD field.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care services including counseling and ADL training.
• Ensure health, safety and wellness of the people we support.
• Build positive relationships and participate in treatment plans.
• Complete mandatory trainings (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving).
• Meet OPWDD Core Competencies and document accordingly.
• Assist with community integration, recreation and socialization.
• Train and present to a team and handle additional tasks as needed.
