Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Food Service Assistant to support meal prep, serving, storage and dining hall cleanliness as part of a youth development program. You will help ensure a safe, clean environment aligned with the YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.

The role includes maintaining program records, following safety guidelines, and collaborating with campers, parents, and staff during meals, activities, and trainings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum one year previous experience working in food service.
• Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within six months of employment.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for food preparation related to meals and snacks.
• Responsible for proper food storage and handling at all times.
• Responsible for dish washing and sanitizing, including food prep areas.
• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
• Maintains required program records.
• Acts as a role model to campers by exemplifying YMCA values.
• Maintains positive relations with campers, parents, staff.
• Attends family nights, program activities, staff meetings, trainings.
• Reports suspicious behaviors and policy violations.
• Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meets timelines related to supporting systems and time sheets.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for food preparation related to any and all meals and snacks
• Responsible for proper food storage and handling at all times
• Responsible for proper dish washing and sanitizing, including food preparation areas
• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Maintains required program records.
• Makes sound decisions in alignment with YMCA and state standards.
• Acts as a role model to campers by exemplifying the YMCA’s five core values.
• Maintains positive relations with campers, parents, camp personnel, and other staff.
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
• Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
• Minimum one year previous experience working in food service environment.
• Ability to obtain Servsafe Certification within six months of employment
• Previous experience with diverse populations.
• Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required by the local or State Department of Health.
