CCHI is seeking a Resident Advisor to provide daily check-ins, build relationships, and foster a welcoming community at CCHI Commons in Highland Park, IL. The RA serves as overnight contact and emergency responder when needed.

A furnished one-bedroom apartment is provided year-round, along with a stipend. The ideal candidate communicates well, works independently, and respects privacy while supporting residents’ independence. CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily check-ins with residents and provide support as needed.

  • Report safety or well-being concerns to CCHI staff.

Position Overview

The Resident Advisor (RA) is a supportive, dependable presence for the residents of CCHI Commons. The RA’s primary responsibilities are to provide daily check-ins, build positive relationships with residents, encourage connection and community participation, and serve as an overnight contact in the event of an emergency. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, supporting independence, and helping create a welcoming and connected residential community.

Housing & Stipend
  • A furnished one-bedroom apartment at CCHI Commons is provided for the RA to live in year-round.
  • A stipend is provided for the RA role.
  • The RA is expected to maintain a consistent presence in the building and be available for overnight emergency response as scheduled.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily check-ins with residents and provide additional support as needed.
  • Serve as the overnight contact for resident emergencies and follow CCHI emergency procedures.
  • Build trusting, positive relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Encourage residents to connect with one another and participate in activities and programs.
  • Help welcome new residents and foster a friendly, inclusive community.
  • Communicate concerns about resident safety, well-being, or significant changes to CCHI staff.
  • Support residents in communicating maintenance or building concerns.
  • Participate in resident meetings, community activities, and emergency drills as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with The Commons Community Manager regarding resident concerns and community needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect residents’ privacy, independence, and individual choices.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with adults with disabilities or in a residential, social service, education, or community setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently.
  • Calm and capable of exercising good judgment during emergencies.
  • Respectful of individual choice, privacy, dignity, and independence.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Flexibility to receive, initiate and respond to work-related communications seven days per week, 14 hours per day.
Schedule

This is aresidential position. The RA will have scheduled responsibilities for daily check-ins, community connection, and overnight emergency availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Overnight Emergency Role

The RA is not a caregiver or medical provider. The RA serves as a reliable overnight presence and point of contact. In an emergency, the RA will contact 911 or appropriate emergency services, follow CCHI procedures, and notify designated CCHI staff and/or family/support contacts as appropriate.
