RESIDENCE LIFE COORDINATOR

Description

Student Housing and Residence Life within the Division of Student Affairs at UAB is seeking a dedicated Residence Life Coordinator to lead and manage a residence hall housing 600 to 800 students. This full-time, live-in, 12-month position typically lasts two years and is comparable to a hall director, community coordinator, or resident director at other institutions.

Residence Life Coordinators play a vital role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive living environment. Ideal candidates will have experience in student life, especially in student housing, activities, or leadership development. Prior service as a Resident Assistant (RA) is highly preferred.

The role may involve working with first-year or upper-class students, with responsibilities including supervising, recruiting, training, and mentoring staff, and ensuring student well-being and success.

This position is also responsible for implementing a residential curriculum focused on student development, academic success, and community building. The Coordinator will collaborate with various campus partners, including academic units, success centers, and student involvement offices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate Resident Assistants and Graduate Assistants; provide ongoing staff development and coordinate work and projects.
  • Implement educational strategies aligned with residential curriculum philosophy to promote student and staff development.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to provide themed housing and assess programs to meet learning objectives.
  • Serve as a preliminary student conduct officer, addressing inappropriate behaviors and fostering a respectful community.
  • Oversee health and safety inspections, maintenance follow-ups, room changes, check-in/out processes, and liaise with facilities staff.
  • Assist international students in adjusting to campus life and connecting with resources.
  • Participate in rotating on-call duties for emergencies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $43,890 - $44,000

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field and at least one year of relevant experience. Work experience cannot substitute for educational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in student development theory, building relationships within academic environments, and skills in conflict resolution, emergency management, and routine tasks are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to manage staff, plan strategically, assess programs, respond to crises, and develop learning communities. Ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions with limited information is essential.
