Under the direction of the Senior Instructor of Residence Life, the Residence Hall Coordinator plays a key role in developing and maintaining a residential community that supports students' social, personal and intellectual growth. This position is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive living environment that promotes student success, personal development and meaningful engagement within the residential community. The Residence Hall Coordinator is an academic-year position, with contract dates typically running from late August through late May. The schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a few Saturdays required throughout the year.
- Advise, counsel, and establish rapport with students to support them in adjusting to residence hall living in particular and boarding school life in general. Assist students in developing healthy relationships with their roommate and the residence hall community. Refer residents to appropriate community resources.
- Collaborate with other Residential Faculty in developing inclusive residential learning communities. This position must demonstrate an effort to understand their individual and collective role in creating inclusive environments and ensuring a framework of equity and justice is embedded in their day-to-day work. As a member of a diverse campus community, actively engages students, facilitates conversations about diversity and social justice, and confronts situations of bias that result from lack of understanding.
- Contributes to facilitating the development of communities that are welcoming and accepting of people of all race and ethnicities, abilities, ages, genders, national origins, religions, and sexual orientations.
- Exercise general supervision over main hall desk operation.
- Coordinate residence hall celebration of religious observances and holidays.
- Train Senior Instructors and Instructors of Residential Life on the operation and management of Resident Hall main desk and responsibilities.
- Regularly communicate (in person, via telephone, and via email) with parents and families to provide a variety of information and to receive permission for various student activities.
- Builds relationships with a variety of campus partners in an effort to strengthen student support tailored to their students' needs.
- Perform administrative duties to maintain an efficient, functioning residence hall; tasks including daily attendance, overseeing student travel logistics, keys, housekeeping, maintenance, mail, maintaining records, and preparing necessary requisitions for the daily operations of the dorm. Responsible for detailed administrative and record-keeping tasks related to the care of students.
- Monitor the condition of facilities; recommend repairs or alterations as needed.
- Respond to emergency situations in an efficient and effective manner to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
- Interprets and enforces policies and procedures that relate to student conduct concerns.
- Seeks the best use of materials, equipment, and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Complies with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances.
- Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community.
- Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.
- Participate in the overall planning of the total residence hall program; work closely with other Residence Life personnel in carrying out programs and services; support the development of budget requests.
- Establish relationships with other departments within Student Affairs; assume an active role within the department through activities, liaison work with other departments, and professional and staff in-service activities.

Experience and Skills
- Experience working with high school-age students preferred.
- Familiarity with Mac laptops, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, phones and fire extinguishers.
- Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as outlined in policy 12.HR.01, Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
- Valid driver's license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of Interlochen's insurance carrier (for positions requiring driving).
