The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a research technician to support cellular and molecular biology experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the research technician will perform cellular and molecular biology experiments, including creating viral vectors for neuroscience applications. See our publications at unc-neurotools.org for more information.
The main duties involve daily mammalian cell culture, cloning, DNA preparation, viral vector purification, and lab maintenance. These require attention to detail, accurate recordkeeping, and aseptic techniques. The candidate must maintain sterile cell culture conditions, quantify cell numbers during various stages, prepare reagents, document supplies, follow safety protocols, dispose of waste properly, maintain equipment, and communicate results during meetings.
Opportunities include participating in other lab projects such as cell-culture assays, molecular cloning, PCR, immunocytochemistry, data analysis, maintaining experimental databases, and assisting with grant and publication preparations.

Previous experience with cell culture, ability to conduct aseptic techniques in biosafety cabinets, and strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
