Location:

Northeast Region near a major airport, i.e., Boston, Southern New Hampshire, Hartford, Southern Connecticut, New York City area.

100% Remote with nearly 100% domestic business travel

Reports to:

Service Manager

Standard Schedule:

Monday – Friday, with hours varying; must be able to work weekends, early mornings, and some evenings

Compensation:

$27 - $46 per hour

Job Responsibilities:

The Service Technician–Mechanic travels to customer locations to install, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and printing issues for Koenig & Bauer printing presses. The Service Technician interacts directly with the customer, listening to their needs and asking probing questions to prepare for installation or service calls. Must be able to effectively communicate technical information and resolutions to customers with varying technical knowledge. The technician must develop a plan of action to address customer issues with an emphasis on quality work (fix it right the first time) and efficiency to minimize downtime and control costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on Koenig & Bauer equipment at customer sites, including but not limited to gripper settings, pump and inker issues, seals, register drives, ink key seals, clamps, bladder replacements, machine crashes, perfector issues, and cylinder replacements.
  • Install Koenig & Bauer equipment (40-inch and larger), as well as sub-supplier equipment, in accordance with blueprints from delivery to commissioning, including installing base units, inker placement, infeed, extension, delivery, and feeder; placement of pumps and cabinets.
  • Conduct thorough audits on presses, inspecting from feeder to delivery, identifying worn or damaged parts, emphasizing safety-related issues. Estimate repair times and prioritize repairs based on safety, quality, and production needs.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues using documentation, internal resources, and research to identify root causes and necessary repairs.
  • Determine and execute action plans for repairs, including parts procurement, scheduling with customers, and coordinating with Koenig & Bauer departments for tools and additional labor.
  • Provide world-class customer service, including greeting customers, understanding their needs, informing them of findings and plans, and maintaining communication during repairs.
  • Complete all records accurately, including parts used, issues, time, expenses, and work performed.
  • Follow all customer site policies, safety protocols, and workplace rules.
  • Perform other duties as necessary based on business needs.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED; post-secondary certification in a technical field preferred (e.g., printing, industrial/plant maintenance).
  • Minimum of two years of related experience in printing, press manufacturing, industrial/plant maintenance, or similar technical fields.
  • Basic computer skills including email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with hand tools such as wrenches, ratchets, pliers, hammers, screwdrivers.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical CAD drawings.
