Job Title: RESEARCH TECHNICIAN I

Occupational Summary

This is an entry-level technical position to assist several faculty members at the Duke Marine Laboratory in conducting a research project focusing on environmental DNA (eDNA) funded by the Office of Naval Research.

Work Performed

1. Conduct field research aboard oceanographic research vessels and molecular analysis in the laboratory as part of a research team exploring the use of eDNA to monitor deep-diving beaked whales and their prey.
2. Perform general lab maintenance, collect samples in the field from various research vessels, and process samples for molecular analyses, including DNA extraction, quantification, PCR/qPCR, DNA sequencing, analysis, documentation, and report writing.

Required Qualifications at this Level

• Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related scientific field.
• Experience: None required beyond education/training.
