Department Information

This position is with the Academic and Artificial Intelligence (AI)division of University Information Technology Services (UITS).Academic and AI Innovation supports academic technologies forteaching, research, and outreach, while advancing a distinct AIinnovation agenda focused on strategy, platforms, governance,trust, partnerships, and literacy.

Job Summary

This position works within a collaborative, dynamic team withextensive expertise in scientific computing, research computing,and cyber-infrastructure. A person in this role supports Jetstream2and ACCESS Operations, working with researchers and technical teamsto analyze needs, improve workflows, and shape researcher-facingservices and systems.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Translates stakeholder needs into actionable requirements andhelps ensure these nationally available advancedcyberinfrastructure services are usable, accessible, and alignedwith researcher needs.
• Performs advanced systems analysis for Jetstream2, ACCESSOperations with a focus on researcher experience, usability, andaccessibility.
• Consults with researchers, facilitators, developers, systemadministrators, and other stakeholders to identify needs and definebusiness and functional requirements.
• Develops user stories, acceptance criteria, workflowdocumentation, functional requirements, and implementation plansthat translate stakeholder needs into actionable developmentpriorities.
• Conducts workflow analysis and usability evaluations andassesses websites, documentation, training materials, and otherresearcher-facing resources to identify opportunities forimprovement.
• Implements and maintains lightweight solutions within existingplatforms, such as web content management systems (WCMS), forms,and other configurable tools, to address user and operationalneeds.
• Supports project planning, implementation, quality assurance,and user acceptance testing to ensure solutions meet documentedrequirements and researcher needs.
• Researches and applies best practices in systems analysis, userexperience, accessibility, and service design and provides guidanceto project teams.

General Responsibilities

• Performs advanced systems analysis, including implementationand documentation, quality assurance testing, and documentationdevelopment.
• Performs project planning, formulating objectives, preparingproposals and detailed functional requirements documents, anddeveloping support materials; may lead project implementation andquality assurance efforts.
• Assessss documentation and training as well as web andelectronic information sources.
• Consults with stakeholders to identify and evaluate functionalrequirements of new and existing systems; contributes advancedknowledge to large scale development efforts.
• Ensures system analysis protocols adhere to all universitypolicies and standards; may participate in committees andcommunities of practice to share and improve system analysispractices across the university.
• Provides advanced research/analysis and stays up-to-date on newindustry standards for systems administration and analysis.
• May serve as project leader; often provides guidance to juniorpeers.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science or relatedfield.)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 5 years of systems analysis or related experience.

Preferred

• Experience working in scientific computing, research computing,or research support environments.

• Strong interviewing, facilitation, and active-listening skills,with the ability to elicit and clarify requirements from technicaland non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience evaluating digital interfaces, documentation, andworkflows for usability and accessibility.
• Experience developing user stories, functional requirements,acceptance criteria, and workflow documentation.
• Experience authoring or co-authoring conference papers,technical papers, reports, or presentations that communicateproject outcomes, findings, and best practices to research andprofessional audiences.
• Familiarity with web technologies, Application ProgrammingInterfaces (APIs), content management systems, and softwaredevelopment processes, with the ability to implement lightweightsolutions within existing platforms and collaborate with technicalteams on more complex development.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git,Linux-based computing environments, and project managementsoftware.
• Familiarity with AI/ML tools and workflows or interest indeveloping these skills.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and tooperate a computer and other standard office productivityequipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periodsof time moving around an office environment and the campus. Theperson in this role must be able to perform the essential functionswith or without an accommodation.

This is a grant-funded position.

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remoteand in-person work), subject to change in the future based upon university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$85,000 - $90,000 per year based upon experience and internalequity within the department.
