Indiana University Bloomington seeks an experienced software engineer to join UITS Research Software Solutions. The role focuses on developing, deploying, documenting and operating secure enclaves and related research software infrastructure.

The candidate will provide advanced analysis and programming for research systems, lead in creating reliable, reproducible software, and manage a broad suite of CI services while engaging with researchers to translate needs into practical capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required; combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
  • At least 3 years of systems programming/analysis or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced analysis and programming for the design, development, and support of research systems.
  • Leads development and implementation of well-engineered software that supports and enriches research productivity and reliability; evolves software development and data services with the research to ensure reproducible code.
  • Operates, monitors, and maintains the integrity of CI systems (storage, cluster computing, databases, virtual machines, networks).
  • Provides expert consultation with researchers on a broad set of state-of-the-art research systems, tools, and software to enable productivity.
  • Connects and leads interactions between researchers and technology providers; communicates with systems and software/data professionals.

Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Plays a key role in the development, deployment, documentationand operation of Secure Enclaves.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced analysis and programming related to thedesign, development, and support of research systems.
  • Acts as lead in the development and implementation ofwell-engineered software that supports and enriches researchproductivity and reliability; evolves software development and dataservices with the research to ensure that modern standards ofreproducible code are kept.
  • Acts as lead in operating, monitoring, and maintaining theintegrity of a broad scope of CI systems (storage, clustercomputing, databases, virtual machines, networks...).
  • Provides advanced consultation with researchers in the use of abroad set of state-of-the-art research systems, tools, and softwareto enable research productivity; partners with researchers toco-create and co-learn relevant computing and datacapabilities.
  • Connects, facilitates, and leads interactions betweenresearchers and technology providers; provides regularcommunications to the systems and software/data professionals.
  • Engages a broad set of researchers through support requests asa subject matter expert (i.e. email, ticketing systems, chats);recommends and establishes best practice documentation, processesand procedures to remediate support request.
  • Supports and collaborates with researchers and other key IT(e.g. network and security) and Data Center partners.
  • Builds and maintains relationships across the various CI teamsto support researchers' needs in a timely manner; keeps up with thepace of complex research problems.
  • Enhances learning with full awareness of the local researchcomputing and data landscape.
  • Identifies education opportunities in research community; helpsbuild curriculum and contributes to development and presentation ofvarious training to researchers on basic use of CI.
  • Contributes to grant proposals that are led by CI professionalsor faculty members.

Working Conditions / Demands
