Job summary

Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking an experienced Software Engineer for the Autonomy Technology Transition Division to design, develop, and test software for autonomous unmanned systems and related platforms. The role emphasizes leadership, coding across multiple languages, and lifecycle governance within sponsor programs.

The position requires strong C/C++, Java, Python skills, Linux deployment experience, and the ability to collaborate with government and industry partners.

Qualifications

• Experience developing software for complex systems using disciplined approaches and processes.
• Experience developing software estimates and managing the software development through the project lifecycle.
• Experience developing, integrating, and/or testing unmanned autonomous system capabilities.
• Experience developing software in C/C++ languages.
• Experience with scripting languages including Bash and Python.
• Experience developing software on Linux and deploying to Linux target systems.
• Experience developing multi-threaded and multi-process applications.
• Experience with IPC mechanisms such as shared memory, pub-sub, and RPC.
• Experience with containerized software development.
• Experience leading sponsored research projects and sponsor interactions.
• Experience facilitating dialogue and collaboration among research personnel, government, and industry stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform software development, debugging, modification, enhancement, and documentation.
• Design, test, and develop software to meet program requirements.
• Define requirements and develop software designs for target hardware limitations.
• Author technical reports and presentations for moderately to highly complex projects.
• Compile report input from researchers and prepare final deliverables.
• Lead and contribute to white papers and proposals.
• Create and analyze network protocols.
• Provide technical leadership to development teams.
