Job summary

Attain Partners is seeking a Research Security Officer to lead university research security and export controls compliance programs. The role acts as the subject matter expert and collaborates with governance, IT, and research offices to implement policies and controls across institutions.

The position requires ITAR/EAR/OFAC expertise, strong collaboration, risk assessment capabilities, and the ability to guide license processes, staff training, and compliance across federal regulations.

Qualifications

• In-depth understanding of ITAR, EAR, OFAC regulations and federal contracting requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively.
• Experience developing and implementing research compliance programs, global trade compliance, and/or research operations.
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of direct experience or equivalent combination of relevant advanced degree and experience.

Responsibilities

• Executes compliance program activities, including risk assessments and work plans.
• Serves as the institution’s research security point of contact and responds to information requests.
• Manages export control program obligations, licenses, and governance with federal agencies.
• Reviews research proposals and contracts for export control terms and provides guidance to stakeholders.
• Develops training and processes to ensure adherence to export control regulations.
