Job summary

University of Utah Health seeks a leader for Research Security and Export Control to guide the program, provide strategic direction, and support the University’s secure research initiatives. The position may serve as Empowered Official for export control, with responsibilities spanning licensing, risk assessment, and policy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) + 8 years of directly related work experience for Senior Manager; bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 10 years for Associate Director; bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 12 years for Director.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory Compliance Oversight: oversee export control compliance and related policy development.
• Interpret and apply U.S. export control laws and regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC).
• Monitor regulatory changes and advise stakeholders accordingly.
• May serve as the Empowered Official under 22 CFR 120.67 for export control.
• Review sponsored research proposals, awards, contracts, and technology transfer activities for export control considerations.
• Determine licensing requirements and advise on permissible activities involving controlled items.
