Research Scientist Associate II

Hiring Department: Bureau of Economic Geology

Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40

FLSA Status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: Immediately

Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until Dec 31, 2027

Location: PICKLE RESEARCH CAMPUS

Purpose

This position assists in mineral resource assessment and characterization studies, particularly aggregate and industrial mineral mapping initiatives. Responsibilities include utilizing GIS, satellite imagery, and database development to generate geologic maps.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in mineral resource assessment, characterization and mapping efforts. (50%)
  • Assist with Mineral Resource Program tasks utilizing GIS, satellite imagery, and database development. (25%)
  • Drafting and producing geologic maps, reports, and data associated with mineral resource projects. (25%)
Required Qualifications

MS in Geology or related discipline with no experience, or BS in Geology or related discipline with at least 2 years related experience. GIS skills, familiarity with mineral resources, and geologic mapping experience. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Texas geology, air- and space-borne satellite imagery analysis for geologic mapping, mineral resource characterization and assessment experience, aggregates, and urban planning practices.

Salary Range

$65,000 + depending on qualifications
