Job Description

Title: Research Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician

Location: Atlanta, GA

Status: Part-Time

Hours: Must be able to work on weekends and holidays up to 4 hours a day.

Position Summary:

The Research Laboratory Animal Veterinarian Technician will support HIV prevention studies. The primary purpose of this contract is to perform animal-related procedures to support DHP LB laboratory research on HIV treatment and prevention using nonhuman primate models.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. Perform animal services as specified and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  2. Administer anesthesia and antiretroviral drugs on nonhuman primates during weekends and holidays, up to 4 hours a day.
  3. Perform preparatory tasks related to the administration of antiretroviral drugs.
  4. Conduct post-procedure cleaning, sterilization, or maintenance of instruments or equipment according to SOPs.
  5. Properly process, handle, transport, store, and record procedures and observations.
  6. Maintain supplies and reagents needed for procedures.
  7. Enter data into relevant databases to keep current records of nonhuman primate work and results.
  8. Attend all required onsite contract and safety trainings.
  9. Submit weekly reports.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 3+ years of veterinary technician experience, including at least 1 year in a laboratory animal setting.
  • Experience with nonhuman primates.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain vaccinations, physicals, and all medical requirements.
  • Certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) and/or a current Registered/Licensed Veterinary Technician (RVT) credential, acquired through an AVMA/CVTEA accredited program.
