Job summary

Institute for the Study of War (ISW) offers Spring 2027 internships in person, remote, and hybrid formats. Interns work with analysts across portfolios including Russia, China, and Iran, gaining hands‑on training and exposure to cutting‑edge technologies in a fast‑paced environment.

ISW emphasizes open‑source intelligence analysis to inform policymakers and warfighters, with a structured development program and mentorship throughout the internship.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in war studies, national security, or regional studies.
• Preferably strong reading/listening comprehension in Russian and/or Ukrainian.
• Strong analytical writing, editing, research and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist analysts with open-source research and data collection.
• Support the Russian Occupation Update and related research efforts.
• Contribute sections to publishable ISW research and learn to map data visually.
