Job summary

Institute for the Study of War (ISW) seeks motivated college students or recent graduates for its Spring 2027 Internship Program. In-person, remote, and hybrid options are available, with opportunities across Russia, China, Iran and other portfolios.

Interns will work with analysts, gain hands-on training in open-source intelligence, and contribute to geopolitical research used by policymakers and warfighters.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated interest in war studies, national security, or regional studies.
• Interest in military occupations and humanitarian/human rights issues in conflict zones.
• Ability to conduct primary source research using foreign languages (preferably Russian/Ukrainian).

Responsibilities

• Support analysts with open-source research and data collection.
• Draft sections of analyses under supervision for publication.
• Contribute to research on Russia, Ukraine, Eastern Europe and post-Soviet space.
