Job summary

The University of South Alabama’s Research Development and Learning unit seeks a Research Development Specialist to assist faculty with proposal development, timelines, and sponsor alignment. You will provide strategic editorial oversight from concept to submission.

You’ll collaborate with researchers and administrators, refine non-technical content, create figures, ensure compliance, and manage internal funding programs and communications to strengthen the university’s research portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus three years of directly related experience; equivalent combination considered.

Responsibilities

• Assists researchers with proposal development from concept to submission and provides strategic editorial oversight.
• Develops proposal timelines collaboratively and manages the proposal process, identifying content development roles.
• Assists researchers with technical and non-technical proposal content, creating persuasive narratives and tailored management plans.
• Develops figures/tables to support narratives and create timelines, logic models, diagrams, and organizational charts.
• Reviews proposals for alignment with sponsor requirements and formatting guidelines.
• Ensures clarity, organization, accuracy, style, and quality of written work across multi-author contributions.
• Facilitates communication between researchers, collaborators, and research administrators to improve submissions.
• Manages internal funding programs and limited submissions, including announcements and newsletters.
