Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine seeks a Research Associate to conduct independent research supporting pathogen-agnostic characterization of biological samples using molecular, microbiology, and genomic techniques.

You will design, execute, and optimize experiments and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify known and emerging biological threats for public health and biodefense objectives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required with at least 3 years of research experience.
• Experience designing and executing pathogen-agnostic characterization studies.
• Proficiency in molecular biology, nucleic acid extraction, and NGS.
• Ability to analyze complex genomic and metagenomic datasets.
• Knowledge of biosafety and regulatory requirements, including BSL-3.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and optimize pathogen-agnostic characterization studies.
• Conduct advanced molecular biology experiments, including nucleic acid extraction, library prep, NGS, and genomic characterization.
• Develop, validate, and improve laboratory methods for broad-spectrum pathogen detection.
• Analyze and interpret complex biological, genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic, and microbiological data.
• Collaborate with bioinformaticians and data scientists to integrate lab findings with analyses.
• Prepare and review technical reports, SOPs, and publications.
