Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform pathogen-agnostic laboratory characterization using molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, and broad-spectrum analytical techniques to detect, identify, and characterize known, novel, and emerging biological agents.

This role supports AFRL CHEERS program and biosafety standards.

Qualifications

• Education and experience as stated in the posting.
• Associate degree required with 0-2 years of experience.
• Knowledge of biosafety and laboratory practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing and characterization of biological samples using pathogen-agnostic methods and workflows.
• Prepare, process, and analyze clinical, environmental, or biological specimens following established laboratory protocols.
• Conduct nucleic acid extraction, library construction, and quality control for NGS applications.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sequencing platforms and analytical equipment.
• Support metagenomic, genomic, transcriptomic, and other broad-spectrum pathogen detection efforts.
• Execute molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, quantification, amplification, and enrichment.
• Maintain laboratory records and chain-of-custody documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Assist in data review, interpretation, and reporting of findings for research and public health initiatives.
• Ensure biosafety, biosecurity, and proper disposal of infectious materials.
