Summary

Job Description:

The project aims to analyze the Harlem Renaissance (1920s) and the cultural insurgency of the 1990s in a comparative framework, with an emphasis on how Black artists and cultural figures have used creative expression—through music, literature, art, and media—to contest systemic racialized oppression. The faculty advisor for this position is Dr. Felicia Henry-Conteh.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, code, interpret, and analyze data and trends using standard qualitative and archival data practices and techniques and create corresponding analysis documents for internal and external use.
  • Work on moderately complex assignments under indirect supervision.
  • Contribute to writing formal reports and other research documents based on research findings and coordinate with faculty advisor for feedback, revisions, and finalization.
  • Be responsible for maintaining and checking the accuracy of data.
  • Communicate project support needs and requests to the faculty advisor.
  • Stay abreast of recent trends in scholarship and practice by attending relevant webinars, research seminars, panels, etc., when requested and doing independent exploration.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

  • Part-Time.
  • 25 hours per week.

Salary Range

  • $17.95 per hour.

Required Education And Experience

  • Archival and qualitative research skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on detailed assignments.
