Job summary

Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC, is seeking a Research and Assessment Specialist to join the Office of Institutional Assessment and Research. The Office collects data, analyzes it, and presents findings to support planning, decision‑making, and policy development across the university.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, statistics, behavioral science or related field.
• Three years of assessment related training or experience in a higher education setting, including one year of experience conducting statistical analyses and preparing reports using qualitative or quantitative data.
• All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in fulfilling internal data requests for institutional planning and assessment.
• Lead course evaluation processes and assist with academic planning efforts.
• Coordinate assessment activities with other staff and faculty, manage multiple tasks and different timelines as required by each specific activity.
• Keep up with developments and trends in educational learning outcomes and survey research.
• Maintain knowledge of research and survey design principles as well as data analysis procedures using software such as Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Survey Tracker, Watermark's Course Evaluation and Survey, and Microsoft Forms, etc.
• Develop questionnaires, surveys, and sampling methods to ensure accurate and valid data collection.
• Prepare detailed reports, charts, and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders and management.
• Monitor survey performance, check for bias, and maintain data accuracy.
• Collaborate with teams to align survey objectives with business strategies, such as market research or policy development.
• Coordinate resources to obtain institutional data and support institutional effectiveness
• Compile data from multiple sources including assessment platforms such as Watermark, Taskstream, and SPOL.
• Assist with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of institutional data using WSSU technology software to include but not limited to EAB, Watermark, Webfocus, etc.
• Interpret results, conduct appropriate analyses, decide how to present and visualize data in the preparation of reports

Education

Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, statistics, behavioral science or related field

Position Summary

Winston‑Salem State University is seeking a Research and Assessment Specialist to join the Office of Institutional Assessment and Research!

The primary purpose of this position is to enhance academic learning by providing staff, faculty, and administration with data that they can use to improve their instruction as well as information that can be used to enhance the academic environment to make it more conducive for learning for our students.

The Office of Institutional Assessment and Research has, as its primary mission, the collection of data (from both internal and external sources), and the analysis, distribution, and presentation of this information for use in planning, decision‑making, and policy formulation at Winston‑Salem State University. The Office is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of vital University statistics, and for reporting these data to a broad spectrum of information consumers. A major function of the Office is to assist personnel in other units with research and assessment methodology, analysis, and evaluation. The Office undertakes a wide variety of student outcome assessment projects and major survey research projects in the areas of admissions and retention. The Office of Institutional Assessment and Research (IAR) is also responsible for conducting various surveys with Winston‑Salem State University.
